Divisions

The Outer Banks Marathon has 2 divisions:
1)  Open (Public) Division - The Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon is a 2012  RRCA State Championship Race!

2)  2012 North Carolina USATF Association Championship Division - Only current 2012 members of NC USATF are eligible to compete in this division. NC USATF memberships are available for purchase at www.ncusatf.org.

           

The Outer Banks Half Marathon has 2 distinct divisions:
1)  Open (Public) Division

Medals

All Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K, 5K and Fun Run finishers receive a one-of-a-kind finisher medallion.  Award pins are also given to the top three runners in their age group.  Challenge participants receive Blackbeard or Pamlico Jack pirate pins at the Finish, to pin to their finisher medal adding extra bling and bragging rights!

Age Group Awards

Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group for all 5K, 8K, half marathon and marathon races. **7 & Under, 8-10, 11-14,15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-30, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+) 

For the Outer Banks Marathon, there will not be a 10-14 age group award, as our minimum age limit is 16 years old to participate.  **16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-30, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+) 

For the Outer Banks Half Marathon and the Flying Pirate Half Marathon, the 10-14 age group awards will be limited to runners age 12-14 years old.  **12-13,15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-30, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+) * Age group awards for 1/2 Marathon will be mailed to the receiptants. 

Registrants Under 18
Outer Banks Sporting Events Organizing Committee has set minimum age limits for participants under the age of 18:
    5K - 6 yrs. old
    8K - 8 yrs. old
    Half Marathon - 12 yrs. old
    Marathon - 16 yrs. old

For those under 18, a parent or guardian will have to sign a paper waiver at packet pickup, for his or her child’s participation. (See Race Packet Pick Up).

The 2011 Outer Banks Marathon and Half Marathon prize money is $19,000.

Prize money and awards given at the Awards Ceremony on race day will not be revised, should there be a change in race results following the ceremony.

Bonus Prize Money

Bonus awards of $250 each will be given for new course records, and $100 each will be awarded to the first male and female Dare County resident finishers for both events! Photo ID required for proof of residency.

Surprise Prizes

There will be two surprise awards given! 1587 and 1217 are numbers of significance to Outer Bankers. Better do some research so you can explain why if you happen to be the 1587th finisher!
