THE FLYING PIRATE HALF MARATHON AND FIRST FLIGHT 5K SATURDAY APRIL 21 AND SUNDAY APRIL 22 - 2012

Here's your important 'Need2Know' info for race day. This information will be emailed to you in the Virtual Race Bag and provided to you at the race EXPO.

First Flight 5K  8:00 AM Start
PARKING
Parking for the First Flight 5K is available at First Flight High School, located across from the Wright Brother National Memorial.

First Flight High School: 100 Veteran’s Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948

DIRECTIONS
5K Parking: From Hwy. 158, turn west onto Colington Rd./W. Ocean Bay Blvd. at milepost 8.  Turn left onto Veterans Drive.  The high school is on the right.

5K Start: From the high school, follow the sidewalk to Colington Rd. and cross at the light.  Follow the bike path (heading towards the Wright Monument and Hwy. 158) to a mulch path into the park.  The Start is near the First Flight sculpture.

Flying Pirate Half Marathon  7:00 AM Start
SHUTTLES & PARKING
Participants utilizing the shuttle service should arrive at their shuttle pick-up location at least 10 minutes before the first scheduled departure.  Get there early to make sure you get on the shuttle and get to the Start on time.

Runner Drop-Off:
From Hwy 158 (the Bypass) in Southern Shores, turn onto Dogwood Trail. Turn right into the parking lot of Kitty Hawk Elementary School, 16 Dogwood Trail, Southern Shores, 27949.  Runner drop-off is at the school, and just a short walk to the Start.

Flying Pirate Shuttles:
Park near the Start, take a shuttle to the Start and catch a shuttle back to your car after the race OR park near the Finish, take a shuttle to the Start, run the race and then take a short walk back to your car.

Start Shuttles & Parking:
Wal-Mart - 5400 N Croatan Highway, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949
Shuttles departing every 10 minutes beginning at 5:30AM.

Finish Shuttles:
Pirate's Quay: 3022 S. Croatan Hwy., Nags Head, NC 27959

Finish Parking:
Parking near the Finish and post race party is available at the following locations:

GEAR BAG SERVICE
Bring a change of clothes with you to the Start, turn them over to UPS, and UPS will have them waiting for you at the Finish. Please arrive within 20 - 30 minutes of the Start to take advantage of this service.

BYOB...Bring Your Own Bag! UPS will be at the Start to collect your bag and transport your gear to the Finish. Use the tear-off label from your race bib to I.D. your bag (zip ties provided at the EXPO). Please use a closeable bag, like a small duffel bag or backpack (zippered, drawstring, keeping the size to
16"x 20" or less).

FUEL & PIT STOPS
Water/Gatorade Stations
Water will be available at mile marker 3, 6, 9, and 11.
Gatorade will be available at mile marker 6 and 9.

Energy Gels
Assorted flavors of  energy gels will be provided at mile marker 6 and 9.

Port-a-Johns
Provided at the Start, the Finish and at mile marker 3, 4, 6, 8.5, 10 and 11.

MEDICAL
Medical Aid Stations will be at milemarkers 3, 4, 6, 8.5,  9 and the Finish.

Can’t Finish?  Please call or ask a volunteer to call 911 if you are in need of immediate medical assistance.  First Aid tents will be located along the course. In a non-emergency situation, call (252) 423-1537 to arrange complimentary transportation.

WHERE'D THEY GO?
Lost & Found:
All lost and found items, excluding discarded clothing along the course, will be taken to the Information tent, located near the Finish.  A phone number will be provided on our Map & Info sheet that will be in your race bag.  NOTE: Discarded clothing along the course will be thrown away.

Road Race Tip: If you plan to wear a jacket or pants over your running gear to the start of the race, but you will want to remove them after you warm up, then either use the Gear Bag Service at the Start, or go to the thrift store and buy these items.

Family Reunion Area:
Family members and friends can meet up with runners at the Information tent, located near the Finish.  A phone number will be provided on our Map & Info sheet that will be in your race bag.

RACE TIMING
Race Results
Precision Race will provide race timing services using the JaguarRace Timing System.  Race Results will be updated periodically on race day. Final results will be posted at the post race party and online on race day. Awards given at the Awards ceremony on race day will not be revised, should there be a change in race results following the ceremony.
